City Freezes In Online Prank
Web Guy 24 June, 2008 - 4:52 PM
Thanks to Facebook and a couple of thousand other people, Sydney was the victim of a "flash mob".
In layman's terms (or in Wikipedia-speak), a flash mob involves "a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse."
Inspired by similar attempts in New York City and Paris, participants mingled in an open area.
At precisely 12:40pm, they all stood still.
For 3 minutes.
The rest of the world looked on in confusion, office workers on their lunchbreaks weaved their way through the "frozen crowd" and thought they were on the set of a movie.
Our cameras were there - check out all the action!
Were you there?
What do you think of the prank?
Would you join in any future flash mobs?
Have your say now!

Update: I was on TV!

Oh wow, this awesome! I was there in Martin Place. After the freeze a woman came up to us as we were making our way back to Hyde Park. She told us she was actually a Sydney first timer, so she was kinda freaked out by what had happened. She laughed when we told her it was a massive prank. Oh I cant wait for the next prank!!!! XD

Doesn't quite (way off) match up to the stunt in Central Station US - they had a few thousand people join in
Good to see it here again in OZ though, there was another a few months ago in Wynyard.
