I'm Going Grey... I said Grey!

Racism: Prejudice or animosity against people who belong to other races or who are a different colour.

Wippa Going Grey

According the above, I believe this happens to me on a daily basis. I ask the question why is colour such a big deal, why is it that people are so quick to asses and judge? If something is one thing and another is different doesn't that just make it interesting and not a reason to say one is better than the other?

Believe it or not, I am a sensitive man, new age if you want to throw it out there. A mans man yet still in touch with what matters to others... "And tonight on A Current Affair..."

Ok the point I'm trying to make is that I'm not dealing well with the fact that I'm turning grey. Every day people comment on it like it's some sort of running joke, "here comes the salt and pepper kid". "Look it's a silver back gorilla, run for your lives". Sometimes it's not ever a comment it's just someone that sneaks up behind me at my desk thinking they have the freedom to rip a grey from the top of my head... that's harassment.

The hair on my head and all over my chest it's spreading and there really isn't much I can do about it. It represents ageing and although I'm 28 I don't want to have to look any older than I already am. My grandfather use to joke and using the saying "when I was young and in my prime I could do it any time, now I'm old and all turned grey I can only do it once a day!" That's the part that got me, not that I'm single and not getting any but the fact that the words old and grey work side by side. They're best mates, Starsky and Hutch, Batman and Robin, old and grey; you don't get one without the other.

I've taken a few basic measures to try and fix the issue, standing there in the shower pulling them out one by one, wearing a t-shirt under my shirt, just last night I clipped my chest hair just so it wasn't hanging over neck line of my T-shirt. The reality is, there really isn't a lot I can do, I'm fighting a loosing battle. It's like being at your bucks party being tied up by your mates, having alcohol forced down your throat and then a fat-o-gram rubs herself in oil and massages you face with her guts. Where am I going here? Oh, you just have to accept, right now there's really not a lot I can do.

Or can I? What do you think about people dying their hair? Head hair or any other type, is it big deal? In A world where guys seem to be behaving more and more like women, such as wearing women's tight legged jeans and what about male facial products. Is it now acceptable for a man to dye his hair? Can I, like my 60 year old mum just pop off to the hairdresser for a colour and cut. I'll be honest the more I see an ad for Just For Men on the TV my ears prick up and my mind starts to question, how long does it last, do they have my exact colour, would anyone notice?

I think it's something I'm just going to have to get use to. It's pathetic when people try to make you feel better about it, "come on you look like Harrison Ford" Hey isn't that Kevin Costner? NO!!! I look nothing like them, you've made a basic colour association, you could have said the clouds or concrete, they're grey as well.

It's not easy and for anyone else feeling the strain share my pain?

Your rapidly greying friend Wippa.
