Perth The City of Energy!
Em & Wippa 6 August, 2008 - 8:41 AM
Perth City Council could be on the verge of naming our city the "City of Energy" (no this isn't a joke). According to source the council is researching whether or not the re-branding of the city is viable.
Do you think this is a good idea or do you think it's rather stupid considering we have a massive energy crisis in the state at the moment? The new slogan is meant to lift the "Dulls Ville" image Perth has. What do you think? We're not sure they've got it right.

You're telling me someone is getting paid to think these things up? What an absolute joke thanks 92.9 you put me in a bad mood fore the rest of the day. Sometimes I wonder about this city, there's a real lack of talent in government institutions.

It's stupid stunts like this that make me hate living in this city. We don't need a stupid slogan. The city is called Perth, its a nice place to live that all people need to know. City of Energy what a load of bollocks!!!

The irony of this is not lost on me, are these people at the council really that stupid??? How about instead of pissing about thinking up stupid pointless names you fix all the things that are wrong with our city.
I really do despair sometimes...

How can Perth be called the 'City of Energy' when everything closes at 5pm and everyone goes home only to start the same routine the next day? The only way Perth will get the name 'City of Energy' is when they decide to bring in extended shopping hours and look at revamping the Perth foreshore to give Perth a face lift and a nightlife.

I thought I would write in and have a bit of a whinge. Read the comments, and thought "hey, don't people from Perth know how good they have it?" Guess not. Governments all over the world waste money on useless council meetings, Perth is no different, but that isn't my whinge, it's how everyone has dumped on this beautiful city. I chose to live here, my family has chosen to live here, if you don't want to live here, then well choose to live elsewhere. I've travelled the world over and Perth is by far the best city ever! Thanks for lending an ear!

Chris James: we all love this city thats why we live here, but to waste money developing a stupid slogan for me is beyond the pale. If you're happy for your taxes to be wasted on such folly thats up to you but I for one am not and I'm sure most people feel the same.

Hey all,
I thought we already had the slogan (amongst many other cities granted) the City of Lights? When I was younger I remember being told by my mum about how some guy (don't ask the name of him, I wouldn't have a clue!!) in a plane flew over the city and it was organized that everyone in the city would turn their lights on at the same time :) and when he said "Perth Turn on your lights" all the lights completely lit the city up :) so that guy called us the city of lights :) but in truth my memory is at best forgetful- so that could be the story of another cityâ¦but I was pretty sure it was Perthâ¦
Call me stupid but I think that's a nicer story than- we went through a gas crisis and we had to ration the energy accordingly- and because we use so much energy we got the nickname the city of energy...which by the way- I think sounds like the most boring city anywhere...I just think of light bulbs and things like that I don't think of energy in the personal sense...
I think it might be a good idea to give Perth a niche- but I don't think they have found the right 'slogan' for the city. I think that it might be worthy of fixing the nightlife of the city before they go and name it something that does suggest we have a great amount of energy and a great nightlife here...
That's just my opinion :)
