Toys are an important part of every kid’s life… but these toys have caused injuries, even deaths, and will make you wonder how they even made it onto the shelves!
#8. Sky Dancers
The Sky Dancers are a line of toy dolls that could be launched into the air using a special device... but the dolls tended to fly right into the faces of unsuspecting children. There was massive recall after around 150 reported injuries, and probably many more unreported!
#7. Fisher-Price Power Wheels Motorcycle
This toy motorcycle looks like every kid’s dream… but it quickly turned into a nightmare! It had a defect where the accelerator pedal would get stuck, often sending kids flying into walls at high speeds. Luckily it was taken off the market and recalled.
These were an awesome series of building toys that snapped together using magnets. Only problem is, the magnets easily fell out of the plastic connector pieces and if swallowed, the tiny magnets could actually snap together in the intestines. Many young kids were injured and one even died!
#5. Cabbage Patch Snacktime Kids
This seemingly cute doll had a motorised mouth meant for swallowing fake plastic food, but of course kids starting putting other things in the mouth. Disturbingly, it had no on/off switch so it would continue pulling on whatever was in it’s mouth, leading to one girl losing almost all the hair on the back of her head!
#4. Easy-Bake Oven
The classic Easy-Bake Oven is obviously dangerous and despite numerous re-designs over the years, it always put kids at risk of burns. But the 2006 model was perhaps the most dangerous, with 77 children severely burning their fingers while playing with the toy oven!
#3. Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab
These days, some people think kids playing with smartphones is wrong because of the radiation… but in the 50s, kids were playing with uranium! This lab came with four different atomic ore samples and even had an order form to get more!
#2. Colossal Water Balls
When exposed to water, these Colossal Water Balls expanded to many times their original size and grew even larger with the “growth powder”. The marble-like toys were recalled in 2013 because they looked like candy and if swallowed would expand in the digestive system. What’s even worse is it doesn’t appear on x-rays and requires surgery to remove!
#1. Aqua Dots
Aqua Dots was a fun crafting idea using small beads that would stick together when sprayed with water. It might look innocent but the beads actually contained a highly toxic chemical that was used as a date rape drug!
