Samsung have just announced their "next big thing", only a week out from Apple announcing their updated iPhone.

Introducing the Galaxy Note Edge, which features a screen that cascades off to the right-hand edge.

The "edge" is a fully functioning touch screen which holds all your notifications, incoming calls and text information as well as applications that can be quickly launched at the swipe of a finger across the side of the device.

It also can act as a "night clock" that faces you while you're in bed, providing you with an unobtrusive display of the time.

The Galaxy Note Edge has a 5.7 inch screen and metal frame.

Samsung announced late last night that the phone will launch in Australia before the end of the year, along with the brand-new smartwatch, The Gear S, which also features a two-inch curved screen.

Check out the video below to see it in action.
