Judge Orders New Testing Of Steven Avery Evidence
A huge development
A judge in the US has ordered that new testing can go forward on evidence related to Steven Avery’s case.
Avery was sentenced to life in prison for the 2005 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. He has always maintained his innocence, and the case was brought to the public’s attention when it was featured on the Netflix series Making A Murderer.
Three months ago Avery’s lawyer Kathleen Zellner pledged that she would overturn his conviction, and she took to Twitter to announce that the judge had agreed that new scientific teting could go ahead.
Evidence to be tested includes Avery’s blood sample.
Earlier this month a judge granted the release of Avery’s nephew Brendan Dassey, who was convicted of helping his uncle murder Halbach. However a federal appeals court blocked his police, and he currently remains in prison.
