Dreamworld Could Reopen Next Week
Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld is expected to reopen sometime next week, more than six weeks after the tragic deaths of four people on the Thunder River Rapids ride.
Park owners Ardent Leisure will reportedly provide details of the reopening in a statement to the stock exchange today, before holding a press conference.
It's tipped a staged reopening will happen from Monday, with White Water World to open first before Dreamworld next weekend, on December 10 or December 11.
Ardent Leisure originally wanted to reopen the theme park just days after the tragedy, but were forced by Queensland police to call it off due to their ongoing investigations.
A Workplace Health and Safety audit cleared the park as safe for visitors last week finding no guest safety issues, while the past week has been spent fixing 10 improvement and infringement notices, including several issues on the Buzzsaw roller coaster.
In light of the tragic accident, it was announced the Thunder River Rapids ride would be decomissioned.
Meantime, the Gold Coast City Council will spend $200,000 on a public campaign to attract visitors back to the tourism hotspot.
