A horrific incident on Brisbane's southside this morning has seen a Council bus driver killed and 11 passengers injured.
Police have confirmed a man allegedly entered a stationary bus along Beaudesert Road near Mayfield Road at Moorooka and poured a flammable liquid on the driver before setting it alight.
A 48-year-old man is in police custody.
The driver was just 29-years-old.
11 passengers on board the bus were treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. 6 people were transported to hospital.
Witnesses have hailed a passerby a hero, who reportedly ran to the scene from a nearby shop and kicked the back window in to help passengers escape.
"Words escape me. This is a horrific incident,"said Superintendant Jim Keogh.
As far as terrorism is concerned, police say they have discarded that as a motive, but the investigation is still in its early days.
Inbound lands of Beaudeset Road remain closed with diversions in place, however, drivers are urged to avoid the area.
Police investigations are continuing at the scene.
