Girls Aloud's uncertain future
2009-11-14 Girls Aloud

Sarah Harding isn't sure Girls Aloud will stay together.

The singer - who is currently pursuing an acting career while the girl group are on hiatus - is surprised the group, who have scored four number one single in the UK, have managed to remain popular since they were formed on a reality TV programme in 2002.

She said: "We've grown up in the spotlight, we never thought we'd stick around.

"We're simply taking a break now, we all felt it was time... We said about a year - but we're going to see what happens."

The 'Love Machine' singer added that she now has her sights firmly set on acting, as it provides a fresh challenge for her.

She told British TV talk show host Jonathan Ross: "I'm not saying I don't want to sing any more but everyone knows I'm a bit of a drama queen, I really enjoy a new challenge. This is what I want to do."

The 27-year-old star also insisted her 'party girl' reputation is undeserved as she is much calmer now.

She continued: "When I was a lot younger I was probably going through a hard time. A lot of stuff is misconstrued, I love to go out and have fun but I'm at my most comfortable when I'm at home, don't have to care what I look like."

Sarah's first major acting role is in forthcoming film 'St. Trinian's II: The Legend of Fritton's Gold'.

While she pursues an acting career her four bandmates have all assumed wildly differing roles - Cheryl Cole has started a solo career and become a judge on UK TV talent show 'The X Factor'; Nicola Roberts has launched her own range of make-up; Nadine Coyle is a successful businesswoman, owning hotels and restaurants in the US while Kimberley Walsh fronts a fashion campaign for clothes company New Look.
