Lisa, Baz & Sam Get The Eagles Finals Fever Posted by Jillian McHugh 26 September, 2011 - 8:20 AM

Lisa, Baz & Sam are doing their part to boost the Eagles’ odds of taking out this year’s AFL finals; not only providing the team with special musical inspiration, but also a unique motivational speech.

The brekkie team had WA Premier Colin Barnett deliver a motivational speech live on-air to Nic Naitanui, and got Aussie pop superstar Stan Walker to sing a special Eagles prayer.

Lisa, Baz & Sam convinced Carlton-supporter Stan that since it was the Eagles who knocked Carlton out, he should now support the Eagles, and show that support by singing a prayer for them.

“Stan, we’ve got a proposition for you,” Sam said. “We know that you love God, we know that you sign off most of your Tweets with ‘god bless’ and that’s great. We would like some divine intervention, some divine support for the Eagles leading into this week’s game against Geelong.

“We need help from God,” Lisa told Stan.

“Yes they do,” Stan laughed.

“You have a better connection with God than all three of us combined,” Lisa said. “So we are coming to you to appeal to God to help the Eagles win the game against Geelong on Saturday.”

“I’ll give him a call,” Stan laughed, before breaking into a beautiful gospel-style song. “We’re flying high, blue and gold, the Cats and Daniel Kerr, we’re flying the flag, come on Eagles, we need a win. Jesus help them win,” Stan sang.

Spurred on by their success with Stan, Lisa, Baz & Sam sprung a request on the Premier to deliver a special West Coast Eagles motivational speech.

“Everyone’s excited about the big final this Saturday,” Sam told the Premier. “West Coast Eagles taking on Geelong. We’re getting behind them, Stan Walker sang a gospel song to get behind them, are you willing to get behind them with a motivational speech?”

“As long as they don’t listen to what I say,” the Premier joked.

The brekkie team decided it would be best if they had an Eagle on the line to really soak up his wise words. Baz asked the Premier who his favourite player was; hoping it would be Nic Naitanui, as that was who they had on the line.

“It’s [Luke] Shuey, he’ll win a Brownlow Medal one day” the Premier said.

“It’s not Luke Shuey, so thanks for making all the other Eagles feel bad,” Lisa joked, and introduced Nic to the Premier.

“Hi Nic, and good luck for Saturday, don’t let that hair get in your eyes and make sure you take the marks,” the Premier said.

“That wasn’t the motivation speech by the way, that was the preamble,” Sam joked.

“Pre-match, shut the doors, players only,” the Premier began. “Boys, you’ve worked for this all year. You go out there, you stick together, you play for each other. Don’t worry about the crowd and here’s the game plan: Centre bounce, Naitanui, knock it down to Kerr, Kerr just handball it across to Shuey, Luke run like hell, one bounce, hit Josh Kennedy on the chest, Josh go back, tiptoe in, kick a goal. Just keep doing that all day boys, and you’ll win.”

“Yeah good, but that was a Worsfold line!” Nic laughed.

“Good luck Nic,” the Premier said. “Everyone will be behind you, the whole state.”

The Eagles will take on Geelong at the MCG this Saturday, September 24.
